A Readers’ Forum on Xi Jinping’s Book Held in Addis Ababa
A readers’ forum on the book titled “Xi Jinping: On Respecting and Protecting Human Rights” was held on Thursday in Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia.
In his address to the forum, Jiang Jianguo, Executive Vice President of the China Society for Human Rights Studies, noted that the book has been published in 13 foreign languages, attracting readers worldwide from the fields of human rights, politics, academia, media, and think tanks.
“In this book, readers can perceive Xi Jinping’s deep concern for the people and his global vision as the leader of a major party and a great nation,” said Jiang, who also serves as a member of the Standing Committee of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and Deputy Director of its Committee on Ethnic and Religious Affairs.
Readers can also understand the century-long commitment of the Communist Party of China to respecting and protecting human rights, as well as China’s independent path in advancing human rights, Jiang added. He expressed hope that the book would serve as a valuable reference for African countries in their efforts to modernize, improve human rights governance, and enhance public well-being.
In his remarks, Chinese Ambassador to Ethiopia Chen Hai stated that both China and Africa emphasize a people-centered approach and a human rights path tailored to national conditions, while opposing the politicization of human rights issues.
China and Ethiopia have played an exemplary role in Sino-African exchanges and cooperation on human rights, he said, adding that such collaboration will not only advance the human rights cause in China and Africa but also deepen the China–Africa community of shared future and promote human progress.
For his part, Liberia’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jeddi Mowbray Armah, emphasized that each country must chart a path suited to its own history, culture, and stage of development, while pursuing the shared aspiration for dignity, justice, and equality. He added that this concept resonates deeply with countries of the Global South.
Approximately 150 African representatives from political, academic, media, and student circles attended the event.
