Peng Liyuan, wife of Chinese President Xi Jinping, and Sima Bahous, United Nations Under-Secretary-General and Executive Director of UN Women, visited an exhibition in Beijing on Tuesday showcasing China’s progress in digital and intelligent empowerment of women and girls. The exhibition was inaugurated as part of a side event to the Global Leaders’ Meeting on Women. As technology advances rapidly, next-generation information technologies have become a new driving force enabling women and girls to pursue their dreams, said Peng, adding that China’s efforts to develop digital and intelligent technologies are reshaping the lives of women and girls, offering them broader development opportunities in the era of digital intelligence. Peng, UNESCO Special Envoy for the Promotion of Girls’ and Women’s Education, expressed her eagerness to work with all stakeholders to pave the way for a future full of opportunities in the digital age and to advance the global cause of women. For her part, Bahous praised China’s remarkable achievements in narrowing the gender digital divide, promoting the overall development of women, and safeguarding women’s rights and interests. She called on the international community to collaborate in empowering women and girls so they can fully thrive in the era of digital intelligence. Peng, accompanied by Chinese and foreign guests, toured the exhibition and attended demonstrations including a cloud-connected smart classroom, a Rubik’s Cube-solving robot operated by girls from the Spring Bud Project (an initiative supporting the education of girls from disadvantaged families), and traditional cultural performances, among others. Spouses of foreign leaders and representatives of women’s organizations also attended the event. (Source / Photo: Xinhua)
