China’s Top Diplomat Meets Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation

China’s top diplomat, Wang Yi, met on Sunday in Beijing with Sergei Shoigu, Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation.

Mr. Wang, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and Director of the Office of the Central Commission for Foreign Affairs, welcomed Mr. Shoigu’s visit to China, noting that he had been designated by Russian President Vladimir Putin to conduct strategic dialogue.

According to Mr. Wang, the world is experiencing increasing changes and turbulence, with the post‑war international order and the norms governing international relations being seriously undermined. The world faces a real risk of regressing to the law of the jungle.

China and Russia, as major countries and permanent members of the United Nations (UN) Security Council, have the responsibility and obligation to practice genuine multilateralism, safeguard the UN‑centered international system, promote an equal and orderly multipolar world and inclusive economic globalization beneficial to all, and work toward building a fairer and more reasonable global governance system, Mr. Wang stated.
