Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi hosted the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ 2026 New Year reception in Beijing on Thursday.

Nearly 500 people attended the event, including diplomatic envoys from various countries, representatives of international organizations in China, and officials from Chinese government departments.

In his speech at the reception, Mr. Wang, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, stated that 2025 marked the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations. Despite headwinds in international relations, China remained committed to the correct path in its diplomacy over the past year, he added.

He particularly emphasized that the Global Governance Initiative proposed by China had illuminated the way forward for the world at a critical moment in the evolution of the international order.

No matter how the world changes, China’s position in safeguarding international fairness and justice has remained unwavering, he remarked, adding that the country’s commitment to building a community with a shared future for mankind has not diminished.

At the dawn of the new year, the world is becoming even more volatile and unstable, with peace and development facing serious challenges, Mr. Wang said. China is ready to work with all forces for progress across the globe, keeping in mind the future of humanity and the well‑being of all peoples, to pave the way for an even brighter future, he added.

He called for efforts to uphold peace and the rule of law, promote openness and development, overcome crises and meet challenges, and deepen understanding and friendship.

Martin Mpana, dean of the foreign diplomatic corps in China and Cameroon’s ambassador to the country, conveyed his best wishes to the Chinese people for a happy new year on behalf of the diplomatic community.

He praised China’s diplomatic achievements in 2025, particularly the Global Governance Initiative, which he described as essential for world peace and development.

Countries around the world are ready to work with China to promote mutual understanding, deepen friendship, and strengthen cooperation, with the goal of safeguarding international fairness and promoting common prosperity, Mr. Mpana said.
