The Group of Friends of Global Governance Reaches a Five‑Point Consensus

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi stated Thursday that the Group of Friends of Global Governance had reached a consensus on five key points regarding global governance.

Wang, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, attended a meeting of the group at the United Nations headquarters in New York.

Since the group’s establishment, all members have held in‑depth discussions on reforming and improving global governance, Wang noted, adding that the group had reached consensus on five major points.

First, all members support the democratization of international relations. Every country, regardless of size, power, or wealth, has the right to choose its own social system and development path, as well as to participate in, make decisions on, and equally benefit from global governance.

Second, all members call for respect for the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, equal application of international law and rules, and opposition to double standards and coercion.

Third, all members advocate defending the central role of the UN, practicing multilateralism, strengthening multilateral mechanisms, and opposing unilateralism and power politics.

Fourth, all members support reform and improvement of global governance and the reduction of North‑South divides, ensuring that all countries benefit from development and none are left behind.

Fifth, all members also call for addressing the most urgent challenges facing the international community through concrete actions and tangible results, so that global governance meets the needs of the people and of the times, Wang said. #GlobalGovernance
