Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and President of China, stated on Monday that relations between China and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) now stand at a new historic starting point.
He made these remarks while attending a welcome banquet hosted by Kim Jong Un, General Secretary of the Workers’ Party of Korea (WPK) and President of State Affairs of the DPRK.
On this occasion, Xi emphasized that China and the DPRK, linked by mountains and rivers and sharing a common future, have seen their traditional friendship passed down from generation to generation and strengthened over time through the tests of international changes.
This year marks the 65th anniversary of the China–DPRK Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance, and relations between the two countries are at a new historic starting point, Xi said, noting that he had reached important consensus with Kim during his visit.
From the strategic perspective of the future and destiny of socialism, the Chinese president further indicated, the two leaders agreed to seize the prevailing trend of their era, respond to the common aspirations of their peoples, strengthen high‑level exchanges, deepen strategic communication, expand practical cooperation, consolidate people‑to‑people ties, promote the high‑quality development of China–DPRK relations, jointly open brighter prospects for the socialist cause of both countries, and contribute to the continuous progress of human society.
