Trade between China and Africa reached an unprecedented level in the first half of 2026, thanks to the extension of the zero‑tariff policy to all African countries that have established diplomatic relations with China.
According to official data released in July, the total volume of imports and exports (#China‑#Africa) amounted to 1.41 trillion yuan (about USD 208.9 billion) over the first six months of the year. This is the highest level ever recorded for a first half, averaging nearly 8 billion yuan in daily trade.
Trade continues to improve structurally. According to the data, 75% of Chinese exports to Africa consist of equipment and intermediate goods — productive inputs intended to support the continent’s industrialization and agricultural modernization processes, rather than consumer goods, explained Lin Jian, spokesperson for China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, at a press briefing in late July.
